"We Need The Bible"

September 26, 2024 | By Chuck

As the Lord’s Church, as individual Christians, and as a world that is struggling to identify what sin is, we need the Bible. We are in constant combat with sin. Satan wraps it up nice and neat and makes sin look good and appealing to our flesh. We struggle with fleshly desires and find ourselves striving to overcome sin that so easily and often tugs at our desires. Until we arrive safely home to heaven, we will be locked into this battle between the flesh and the Spirit. “For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” (Galatians 5:17)

Our battle with sin continues, all the while the world does not acknowledge sin and even promotes their agenda of tolerance. The message we see coming from the world is tolerance, confusion, and if you disagree with me then you hate me. Christians are made to feel guilty and even wrong for standing in opposition to sin, which can water down our firm stance. Through all this, Christians are just trying to stand strong against sin and grow in Christ daily. But how do we succeed in our daily battles with sin? How are we to keep focused on the end prize of heaven when the media reports and glamorizes every negative thing under the sun?

The plain and short answer is the Bible. Brothers and sisters, we simply must get back to studying the Scriptures. I believe our life, well-being, and the health of the church depends on it. “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11) The Bible clearly explains exactly what sin is, so there should never be confusion. The Bible stored in our heart from studying it and meditating on it strengthens us against the lure of sin. Sin will always be a problem in this world, so we must prepare ourselves daily to properly combat sin by studying the Bible. Paul mentions “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17) We need to sharpen our swords, preparing ourselves for the battle against sin by studying the Bible.
