"My Prayer"

October 15, 2024 | By Chuck

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20) Sometimes I am so convicted by a biblical text that I pray it. Do you ever pray scripture? I have prayed the above verses on more than a few occasions. We all deal with anger, but how do we deal with it? Anger can cause a lot of trouble and deeply hurt others. Christians must be cautious about anger.

James says we should be “slow to anger.” In other words, do not allow yourself to become angry over every little thing you do not like or does not go your way. Do not be the person who is constantly angry about something. The problem with anger is that it “does not produce the righteousness of God.” People tend to say and do things when they are angry that they would not normally do. Those actions in anger can destroy one’s influence and relationships.

Anger has no place in the hearts of those seeking to honor God. So, don’t wait until you have lost control of your anger to pray about it. Seek God’s help with your anger before you even get angry. Pray for God’s strength to help you control and handle your anger in a holy way. My prayer is that God will help me not to be easily angered and when I become angry to still honor Him. Pray the above words of James and other biblical verses that touch your heart.
