"Washed Clean"

April 23, 2023 | By Chuck

Lately, I’ve been power washing our backyard fence, and, let me tell you, it’s not fun. I can think of several things I’d rather be doing, but it’s one of those chores that has to be done. One of the frustrating things about power washing is how much time it requires. To really get the fence clean, you must spend quite a bit of time washing it thoroughly. Even after I feel I’ve spent an adequate amount of time and washed it thoroughly, I still seem to miss some spots. I just can’t seem to wash it perfectly clean.

I can’t help but think about how we are washed clean by the blood of Jesus at baptism. I was immersed one time into the waters of baptism and cleansed by the blood of Jesus. The preacher didn’t say, “Chuck, let me immerse you a second time because we missed a spot.” That’s not even a possibility when it comes to the cleansing of the blood of Jesus. We are washed completely clean by the blood of Jesus at baptism. God never misses a spot.

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:  neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (I Corinthians 6:9-11) Paul is no doubt referring to former sinners who had been washed clean in the waters of baptism by the blood of Christ. Have you been washed clean from your sins?
