"Consider Your Future"

May 22, 2023 | By Chuck

Has anyone ever encouraged you to “consider your future”? Maybe your parents, grandparents, an aunt, or uncle, but probably someone close to you who cares about you and your future. What is meant by “consider your future” is, "What are your plans after high school? Are you joining the military? Will you attend college or a trade school? Do you have a job lined up that you plan to devote yourself to for the next thirty or so years?"  These are all good options, and one must consider his future career but what about after that?

Everyone must consider their future. We do consider what we will do for a living and when we will retire. But, what about after that? Do you ever consider your future after your career and retirement? That may seem a bit grim and like I’m referring to death. Well, I am. Folks, we will spend far more time in eternity than we could ever spend in this life. When we consider our future, we need to think about where we will spend eternity. Like it or not, believe it or not, eternity is in everyone’s future.

It is great to have a well-thought-out plan for your career and retirement. But even more important than that is having a great plan for your future in eternity. I have learned this life is unpredictable, and it goes by fast. “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!  Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you.” (Psalm 39:4-5) As you consider your future, please consider where you will spend eternity. We must all make it a point to know Jesus.

“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3)
