"We Lost Control"

December 03, 2021 | By Chuck

I suppose we all want to be in control.  When it comes to our day-to-day life, we want total control.  In fact, we have a tendency to believe that control should belong to us because we’re the best one for the job.  I want you to know, if you’re a Christian you’ve lost control.  I don’t mean that you’re out of control like a swerving car on an ice-covered road.  My point is Christians don’t control their lives.

“I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Gal.2:20).   We were crucified with Christ at baptism and from that moment on our life has belonged to Christ.  We died at baptism so it’s now Christ living in us.  That means we gave over control of our lives to Jesus when we were baptized.  We lost control of our lives the day we died at baptism.

Before relinquishing control of our lives to Christ at baptism we lived for ourselves and sin.  But now as a Christian, every decision we make every day of our lives should be made with God in mind and hopefully in accordance with His will.  Even as Christians there are times when the old man of sin wants to take back control and make unhealthy and sinful decisions.  That’s why it is absolutely imperative that we adhere to the teaching of Jesus and deny ourselves every day and remember we lost control so God is in control.  “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Lk. 9:23).
