News and Notes

Pound your parent KICKBALL    -    On Sept. 23 for our devotional we are going to have a 'Pound Your Parents Kickball? Game. The devotional will be at the Barker's house. We will meet at their house at 5pm and have a church service over there.  We will go over there and take the van for those who need a ride, the van will leave church at 4:45. We will play kickball and then we will eat and then have a devo. We will get done around 7:45-8:00 and get back to the building around 8:15ish. I encourage all the parents to come out and participate.  Even if you don't want to play kickball you can root on your fellow parents.

Halloween Party - This year for the Halloween Party we are going to do something like we did last year. We are going to take the teens and do a Haunted House or Haunted Hayride. I am going to try to find a Haunted House that is scary but at the same time is safe and Family Friendly. More details to come. If you have a suggestion let me know. 

Parent Meeting -  Once or twice a year I try to meet with the parents of teens and discuss pressing issues in teen culture and how we can best deal with these issues.  This fall we will be meeting on Wednesday night, Sept 19 during class from 7:00-8:00 in the Chapel.  Subject - Right Click:  Parenting Your Teenager in a Digital Media World.  Look forward to seeing you there.

This week we're starting a new series called BUILD.  We'll be talking about Nehemiah and how God used him to accomplish a great work. There are some great takeaways from Nehemiah's story?check out what's in store this week!

Parents Try This:  Try sharing a story of what it was like growing up where you lived as a student. Was it a big city or a small town? Was there a lot to do or were you often bored? Most importantly, in what ways does your hometown shape who you are today? As you share, you may just find your student starting to value his or her own experience more exactly where they are.

Peer pressure is inevitable in school.  No matter how strong you are, there are always going to be times where it is tempting to give in.  If you don't decide now how you're going to react to peer pressure, it's going to be a lot harder to do the right thing when you're trying to make that decision in the heat of the moment.
