In The Know

We seem to be in the know about literally everything today. There are so many outlets and platforms from which we can find out whatever it is we need to know. If you miss the 10 o’clock news, no problem. Social media and the internet will gladly share information so you can be in the know. I can’t help but wonder if the internet, social media, and 24-hour news have fed our strong desire to be in the know? Is it just me or was there a time when people lived by a need-to-know philosophy? In other words, if it doesn’t pertain to me, I don’t need to know.
Don’t misunderstand the point, it is so important to be informed about certain things. But, has the availability of so much information created in us a craving to be in the know about everything? Some of the things we work so hard to be in the know about do not benefit us at all. In fact, knowledge of some things even hurts us. Do we give too much time seeking information about things that either don’t matter or will upset or hurt us?
Paul writes, “For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (I Cor. 2:2). That’s a simple, yet profound statement. That’s the apostle Paul keeping the main thing, the main thing. Knowing the crucified Christ matters most. Being in the know about the gospel of Jesus Christ is beneficial to all in this life and the life to come. We do need to be in the know about our Lord and His Word. I encourage us all to be in the know by making it a point to read the Bible.
