"Who Do You Walk With?"

December 08, 2022 | By Chuck

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm” (Prov. 13:20).  The message of this verse from Proverbs is simple but poignant.   The point is it matters who we spend our time with because we tend to become like those we are around.  When we walk with or spend time with the wise, that influence helps us to be wise.  When we spend time with the right people, we make the right decisions and do the right thing.  From kids to adults, it matters who we choose as friends because we spend a lot of time with our friends.  If we choose the right friends, they will help us to improve as individuals.

This verse also cautions us about being a companion of fools.  Fools are those who make unwise and ungodly decisions.  Following a fool will lead to a wrong path and possibly harm and suffering.  It has been said that people will do with others what they would never do alone.  If that’s the case, then we must make sure to hang around people who make it a priority to do the right thing.   Influence is a powerful thing, so it very much matters who we walk with.

“Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals” (I Cor. 15:33).
