"Where Are The Still Waters?"

October 10, 2023 | By Chuck

When I think of still waters, I think of peace, tranquility, and a calm quietness. Still waters represent a place to relax and a place to renew and refresh our spirit. Still waters almost sound like a resort where you can get away from the stresses and pressures of life. Sounds good, don’t you think? I’m ready for still waters.

I’m sure many are moving through life at what seems like 100 miles per hour and wondering where are the still waters. So many are so busy building their family and careers that still waters may seem more like a desert mirage. In this crazy busy life we’re trying to conquer, where are the still waters? I think we all need still waters. Finding still waters is more about following the one who can lead you there.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” (Psalm 23:1-2) When we are faithfully following the Lord as our shepherd, He will provide us still waters. It’s a relationship with the Lord, the Chief Shepherd, that brings calm and peace to our lives. The still waters do exist and can be found in any place and circumstance in life, if we are following Jesus. Sometimes the busyness and stress of life overwhelm and distract us so much that we miss the still waters because we’re leading ourselves instead of following the Lord as our Shepherd.

Jesus can provide us the still waters of peace and tranquility that we so need, if we’ll trust Him and follow Him.  “And they went and woke him, saying, 'Save us, Lord; we are perishing.' And he said to them, 'Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?' Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:25-26)
