"We Need To Turn The Light On"

September 04, 2020 | By Chuck

The first thing I do as I enter a dark room is turn on the light. I need to be able to see as I walk into the room. When I go outside at night after dark I will either turn on the outside lights or use the flashlight on my phone to see. These are not foreign concepts at all. In fact, most people probably have the same practices in darkness. It’s obviously much easier to navigate in darkness with a light.
Since the fall of man (Genesis 3:6-7) this world has been filled with the darkness of sin. We live in the midst of darkness every day and desperately need to turn the light on so that we can live in a way that pleases God. God’s Word is our light in this dark world. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”(Psa.119:105). Just as we need a light to properly navigate through dark places, we also need the light of God’s Word to illuminate the right spiritual path through this world of darkness. When you are tempted by the darkness of sin, turn on the light of God’s Word to show you His way. We plug in and turn on the light of God’s Word by simply reading it.
“If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin”(I John 1:6-7). May we all study God’s Word so that we can be in the light and see clearly to avoid the darkness of sin.
