"The Lost Art of Humility"
February 13, 2023 | By Chuck
Humility is not thinking too highly of yourself. It is putting others before yourself. Humility is when you think about others, their needs, and their feelings before you ever consider your own. I understand that none of this sounds natural, and that is because it’s not. We are so interested in ourselves and what we think is best for us that humility is completely unnatural. Humility has become a lost art because the world has fed us the lie that our life is all about us.
The Bible has much to say about humility. In fact, I believe one must have humility to come to Christ. It takes humility to acknowledge your need for Jesus and to submit to Him. Humility should be a mark of the Christian life. God is honored by the humble, and He honors the humble. “Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you” (I Pet. 5:5-7).
The beautiful art of humility brings us closer to God as we continually submit to Him. Humility also provides us the blessing of leaving our anxieties with God. You may wonder what humility and anxieties have to do with each other. It requires humility to admit that we can’t handle our anxieties alone and that we need God’s help. Christians can’t afford to lose the art of humility because humility helps us to view God, others, and ourselves from the right perspective.
