"Strong In The Lord"

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Eph. 6:10).  The context that follows this verse is that of spiritual warfare against our enemy Satan.  We need to live in and rely on the Lord’s strength every day.  Far too often Christians have more faith in themselves than in God and trust their own abilities and strength instead of God’s.  Our physical strength is limited and diminishes over time.  Unfortunately, the older we get the more physical strength we lose.  Besides, I don’t think physical strength is much help in the spiritual battle for our souls with Satan.

David referred to the Lord as his strength when dealing with his enemies.  “O my strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress” (Psalm 59:9).  David knew for him to overcome his enemies it would only be by the strength of the Lord.  David’s wording in this Psalm is evidence that David put no trust in his own strength but only relied on the Lord for strength.  “For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.  O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love” (Psalm 59:16b-17).  May we all find strength in God and truly learn to be strong in the Lord.
