"My Prayer"

“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips”(Psalm 141:3)! I love David’s prayer and I believe it definitely applies to each one of us. Everyone should begin each day with this prayer before there’s ever an encounter with someone else. As one who makes a living by speaking, I realize how powerful and important our words can be. The words we choose to use can do so much good for others but they can also do much harm.
I need God’s help to guard my mouth and His wisdom to choose my words wisely. It’s my prayer that God will use my words to build others up and to never tear anyone down. We pray about so many things every day, but do we ask God for help with our words. I believe our words should be bathed in prayer so that our words will honor God and be a blessing to others. A big mistake that’s easily made is when one carelessly speaks without first praying or thinking about his words. The tongue is impossible to tame, so we need God’s help to guard our mouth and to watch over the door of our lips. Seek God’s help with your words so that you will honor God and be an encouragement to others by your speech.
“For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so”(Jas.3:7-10).
