"Easy Evangelism"

Evangelism is teaching others about Jesus and leading them to the Lord. It is a responsibility every Christian has but seems to be the most dreaded aspect of being a Christ follower. I understand the intimidation that comes with the thought of discussing Jesus with others, but we still must. Paul offers a few thoughts I believe will make our evangelistic efforts easier. “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison – that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” (Colossians 4:2-6)
Three things I want to point out from Paul’s words. First, pray that God will open a door for you to talk to others about Him. Maybe you have specific people in mind that you desire to share the gospel with; pray for them first. Pray that God will open their heart to His word and will provide you an opportunity to talk with them about Him. Next, watch your walk. Be careful how you live. Make sure you set a good example for outsiders. If your life does not match your message, then few will care to listen to you.
Finally, always use words of grace. Make sure your speech is honest, clean, clear, and gracious. You do not want to destroy any potential evangelistic opportunities by your speech. Season all your words with a heavy dose of grace. We can all pray for those we hope lead to Jesus, and we can certainly set a good example by our lives and speech. These three tips will help us as we seek to overcome the nerves to share Jesus with others.
