"When Satan Attacks"

Maybe you’ve seen the show “When Sharks Attack”. It’s a documentary that chronicles various shark attacks. Often the victim will be interviewed, even showing their scars from the attack. At some point in the story a shark specialist or researcher will make an effort to explain why the attack occurred. I’ve heard more than once that when a shark attacks a human it’s probably a case of mistaken identity. I’m not sure we can totally understand why sharks attack humans or if it really matters. The bottom line is, if you swim in the ocean you’re in a shark’s natural habitat and it could attack.
Christians have an enemy that is always lurking and looking for just the right time to attack. You need to know that it’s not if Satan attacks but when he attacks and how. Satan will attack when we least expect it and from an angle that we may not be prepared to defend. More than anything, Satan wants to distract every Christian from their faith in God. Satan wants to entice Christians with sin and lead us into a life that will dishonor God. Satan hopes to convince you and me that our faith in God is useless and a waste of time.
We must heed the warning and take serious the advice the apostle Peter gives us. “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world”(I Peter 5:8-9). Like a swimmer in the ocean or a surfer on a surfboard, we must be vigilant to the things around us and always be prepared for Satan’s attack.
