"Walking With God"

“Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him” (Gen.5:22-24). We tend to focus on the miraculous part of this text which is the fact that Enoch didn’t experience death. Enoch literally didn’t die; God just took him. How that happened or what that looked like, I have no clue. I would rather focus on the phrase “walked with God” that appears twice in this text. What does “walked with God” mean?
It is obviously a very positive trait that caused Enoch to find favor with God and be spared from the experience of death. The idea of walking with God is a daily lifestyle with God as the focus. Walking with God is living an upright and obedient life to God. It’s about striving to be pleasing to God every day. What I ultimately see in Enoch’s walk with God is a close relationship. Christianity is not about rules, regulations and commandment keeping, but it is all about a relationship with God. Every Christian should strive daily to walk with God and do the things that will strengthen our relationship with Him.
