"The Grass Is Not Greener On The Other Side"
October 01, 2019 | By Chuck
I’ve heard it said, “people always want what they don’t have”. If that’s true, then people need to stop looking at what they don’t have. Quit looking at what everyone else has and take notice of all that you have. It’s time we count our blessings and thank God for all that He has given us. Has our modern instantaneous society fooled us into focusing on all the things we want instead of all that we have? Are we so self-absorbed that we overlook our many blessings because we want more stuff, different stuff or somebody else’s stuff? I realize the grass always “looks” greener, but it’s not, it never is and it never will be.
When a person covets the stuff and even the life of someone else, they are simply desiring to trade one set of problems for another set of problems. Nobody has the perfect life that’s without problems and stuff will never make you happy. I think the underlined issue that leads to so many other issues and problems is that people are not content today. Being content is being satisfied with who you are, where you are and all that you have. I believe contentment could save a lot of marriages. Be content with your life and stop looking at what everyone else has that you don’t. Be content with your spouse and stop wanting someone else’s. Be content with all of the many blessings that God has given you.
There are people who are content with far less. “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance. I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me”(Phil.4:11-13). Stop looking at the grass on the other side of the fence and be content with all that God has given you.
