"The Called Out"

August 18, 2021 | By Chuck

I don’t know of anyone who wants to be called out.  Sometimes parents or teachers have to call us out for mistakes we’ve made, but nobody likes it.  The called out are seemingly placed in the spotlight where every eye is on them.  You may find it interesting to know that the church is the called out.  The church is made up of those whom God has called out of worldliness into His Kingdom by the gospel.  “To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ” (II Thess.2:14).

Since the church are those called out of the sinfulness of this world, the church should be different from the world.  The church are the hands and feet of Jesus and the light to shine for the Lord in this dark world.  Being called out of the world by the Lord means the church should influence the world for God.  My concern recently is that the world may be influencing the church more than the church is influencing the world.  We all need to ask ourselves just how much are we influenced by the world.  I’m persuaded the world influences the way we talk, dress, what we do for entertainment and even how often we assemble with the church.  What if the church influenced the world in all of those areas?  Brothers and sisters, we should because we are the called out.

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Col.1:13-14).
