"If I Could Have Lunch With Jesus"

May 13, 2022 | By Chuck

I often have lunch during the week with church members and friends.  It’s a great way to break up the day and get to spend some quality time with good people.  Sometimes there is a specific purpose behind the lunch gathering and other times it’s just for fellowship.  I’m sure you do the same.  We solve a lot of the world’s problems across a table with a meal between us.  That lunchtime fellowship is fantastic and only strengthens the bond that already exists because we’re family in Christ.

If I could only have lunch with Jesus.  I’d choose a place that’s not too crowded so we wouldn’t be interrupted.  I know I’d be loaded with questions for Him.  What’s heaven really like?  At what point did you understand you were born to die?  How do you think the modern church is doing?  Where should the church's primary focus be today?

I have plenty more questions that I’d love to ask Jesus.  Truthfully, I’d be so honored and shocked and overwhelmed to be in His presence, I’d probably sit quietly and just listen to Him.  Listening in the presence of Jesus is the best thing any of us could do.  Martha had that opportunity and missed it because she was so concerned about insignificant things of this life.  Mary had the opportunity and she wisely took full advantage and “sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching” (Lk.  10:39).  I realize I can’t have lunch with Jesus, but I can spend time with Jesus in prayer and reading His word.  May we all make it a point this week to spend time with Jesus and listen attentively as He speaks to our hearts through His word.

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.  And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Mt. 6:6).
