"How Will You Be Remembered"

Recently, I resided over the graveside service of a Christian woman whom I didn’t know very well. The service was short and not well attended. There wasn’t any pictures or fancy slideshow of her life. No hymns were sung. The obituary provided for me to read was short, with only the brief facts and usual statistics of one’s life. There were those present that day who shared with me a few stories of her acts of service to the Lord. She had taught hundreds of students about Jesus through her participation with World Bible School and had even helped fund the building of a church building on foreign soil.
As I drove away from the cemetery that day, I couldn’t help but think of how simple the service had been. Then it hit me, this sweet Christian woman will always be remembered as a faithful servant of God. That’s not too bad, huh? In fact, I can’t think of a better way to be remembered. How will you be remembered? I think we should all consider how we want to be remembered, because it will affect how we live our daily lives. People will remember you by how you lived your life.
Life is short, so live in a way that your memory will make a positive mark in the hearts of others and live so your memory will point to the Lord you spent your life serving. “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit” – yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (Jas.4:13-14).
