"Don't Miss God For The Blessings"
November 21, 2019 | By Chuck
We are so blessed as a nation and people. I wonder can we be too blessed? That may seem like a ridiculous thought, but is it possible to have so much that we miss God. Can one be so blessed that he or she sees no need for God. Can a successful business, huge bank accounts and fancy homes and cars mislead us into thinking we really don’t need God? I’m thinking of one young man who was extremely wealthy, yet he told Jesus he wanted heaven. The problem was he couldn’t let go of his physical wealth so he could enjoy spiritual wealth.
After claiming to have kept all of the commandments, the rich young ruler asked Jesus, “What do I still lack”(Mt.19:20)? That’s a big question to ask Jesus, which clearly indicates that his heart was in the right place and he was legitimately interested in heaven. “Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me”(Mt.19:21). Jesus wants the wealthy young man to focus on spiritual blessings instead of his physical wealth. By blessing the less fortunate with his physical wealth he would have the true lasting wealth of treasure in heaven. “When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions”(Mt.19:22). The rich young ruler missed out on a relationship with God because he couldn’t see past his physical wealth. Don’t miss God for the blessings.
