"Are You Engaged or Disengaged?"

“Are You Engaged or Disengaged?”
Today it seems everyone is so disengaged. As a society we have become so engaged with our cell phones and disengaged from everything else. There are drivers on the road every day that shouldn’t be driving because they are disengaged. Restaurants are full of families who, although sharing a table and meal together, are otherwise totally disengaged with one another. I’m sure you’ve witnessed that scene at the table where everyone in the family is on their phone. Totally disengaged with their family or even their surroundings, but are completely engaged with their phones.
Sadly, I think this can and even does at times carry over into our spiritual lives. How many Christians are disengaged from God and the church? They’re just going through the motions but not really engaged with their brothers and sisters in Christ, much less an intimate relationship with Jesus. A disengaged Christian is one who puts forth very little effort and time toward their own spiritual life. Their involvement with the church will be minimal, if existent at all. Prayer and Bible study are not seen as the priorities they should be. Don’t simply go through the motions in your spiritual life and be a disengaged Christian. Have the drive, commitment and put forth the effort to be so engaged spiritually that you become more like Jesus every day.
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen”(II Pet.3:18).
