"Do You Have A Growth Mindset?"

November 15, 2023 | By Chuck

Surely most would agree that mindset is so important. Your mindset can lead to your success or failure. My question is do you have a growth mindset? A growth mindset is one that is always looking to be challenged and improve. The person with a growth mindset is looking to better himself or herself every day. A growth mindset doesn’t settle for maintaining; it really desires to see improvement. A growth mindset is exactly what the church needs.

Sometimes I wonder if the church has become complacent and, therefore, content with simply maintaining. Don’t get me wrong, we must maintain our status, but we can’t afford to stop progress for the sake of maintenance. If a congregation is content with where they are and what they have accomplished, they don’t have a growth mindset. Congregations today that are thriving and growing have a growth mindset. They have spoken visions and goals for the future, and the whole congregation is on board and supportive. A congregation with a growth mindset doesn’t dwell on the past, but honors it and focuses on their future. A congregation with a growth mindset works as a unified body planning and working toward progress and growth.

It’s not the size of the congregation that is important, it’s the mindset. A growth mindset in a congregation must exist in her leaders and be effectively communicated to the whole congregation. A church in a growing community can put forth very little effort and still maintain her status. Is it okay for Christians in the Lord’s church to just maintain? To me, just maintaining is settling for less than our best. I believe individual Christians and whole congregations must have a growth mindset. If we’re not growing, are we dying?

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.  Amen.” (II Peter 3:18)
