"Wearing The Name of Christ"

July 16, 2023 | By Chuck

If you are a Christian, you wear the name of Christ. An athlete wears a jersey with his name on the back. That athlete does not wear his team jersey every day or all the time. That uniform is for the games and, maybe, practice. But born-again Christians wear the name of Christ all day every day never taking His name off. One might say that we are Christians 24/7, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. That is wearing the name of Christ all the time.

This is so significant because of what it means to wear the name of Christ. Being a Christian and wearing the name of Christ means that you are a blood-bought person. You are under the new ownership of Christ through His blood. Wearing the name of Christ should affect the way you live every day. Christians are to treat people with love and kindness because we wear the name of Christ. Christians are to conduct themselves in godliness with their actions and speech because we wear the name of Christ. Christians do not leave the church building on Sunday and take off the name of Christ like a pair of dress pants so they can live for themselves and sin the rest of the week.

Wearing the name of Christ should even affect how I act on social media. Do not wear the name of Christ and log into social media and misrepresent the Lord with your posts and comments. Wearing the name of Christ should motivate Christians to do everything in a way that pleases God. Since I wear the name of Christ, I want to always represent Jesus with my words and actions and in a way that brings honor and glory to Him.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:16-17)
