– Ask your teens what characteristics of love found in 1 Cor. 13 they admire most. Tell them which characteristics you admire most.

Sunday Morning
Junior High – Scott Patterson
The Story (3/3)
This week we are looking at the beginning of the church. Some questions we will be discussing:

– Is the Holy Spirit still at work today? How have you experienced him or seen him at work?
– Why do you think Jesus’ message spread quickly?
– How was Paul’s life dramatically changed?

Senior High – T. J. Davidson
Unholy Scriptures (3/3)
Teens today are being exposed to more and more in every area of life. Because of this, some have questioned the integrity of the Bible. They have been told that there are other reliable accounts of Jesus’ life that the church ignored. They have been told the church has manufactured a portrait of Jesus by picking and choosing what to include. However, the Bible we have contains the only inspired and accurate accounts of Jesus and true Christianity. Very early and very quickly the church as a whole started to separate the inspired writings from the non-inspired writings.

Wednesday Night – Guest Speaker (Jackson Byrd lead singing)
We have a special guest speaker this Wednesday night and I am super excited. Parents you are invited to come and listen to what she has to say also. Here is what she says about herself and what she will be talking about:

I'm Sarah Brown, Executive Director of Lonoke County Safe Haven. I LOVE speaking truth to and with teens – we all need to hear it – and recognize it. One of the big things I talk with teens about is the definition of dating – to be successful AT ANYTHING – we have to have purpose (winning ball games / acing tests – all of it) – we even need purpose to dating to be successful at relationships. And when we have goals set in place – it makes it easier to keep our eyes on our goals. And those goals help us keep clear minds amidst all of the distractions of the media and world views. God has a plan for us – we just have to be patient and the world doesn't support that idea – again – goals must be established.

Sunday Morning
JH  The Story – 2/3
This week we are looking at the resurrection of Jesus. We are discussing questions like:
– When Jesus appeared to people after his resurrection, how do you think their lives were changed?
– What does Jesus’ resurrection from the dead reveal about God’s power over death and sin? What might this mean for your life?
– Before Jesus went up to heaven, he commanded his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations.” What do you think this mean?

SH  Unholy Scriptures – 2/3
This week’s lesson is a continuation from last week. Many teens don’t think the Bible is reliable because they think mistakes got into the text through hundreds of years of copies. However, we have evidence that through hundreds of years of copying the text stayed the exact same and we also know that through their strict guidelines they are able to accurately reconstruct the original.

Relationship Goals (1/3)
Relationships Goals is about what you want, why you want it, and who you want to be. Week 1 – What you do now affects your future.

Sunday Morning
J. H.
The Story (1/3)
The JH are continuing their series of going through the Bible. They are picking up at Jesus' last hours and death on the cross. They will be studying the story and then discuss questions like:

– What do you think Jesus' act of feet washing communicated to his disciples?

– Why do you think Jesus had to die?

– What implications does Jesus' death on the cross have for your life?

S. H.
Unholy Scriptures (1/3)
This week we are starting our journey to give us confidence the Bible is reliable. We are going to start off talking about how the Bible we have today is an accurate representation of what the original authors wrote. This is so important because many teens think the Bible is like the telephone game and as the Bible was transmitted throughout the centuries it has been corrupted overtime. But this is the farthest thing from the truth.

Bottom Line: In the Old Testament, the Lord continually commands His people to stop, remember and celebrate. You should also celebrate the steps you take in your relationship with God and celebrate the steps others take as well.

Sunday Morning – T. J. Davidson
Spiritual Gifts – 2/3
We are continuing to talk about Spiritual Gifts.

Next Steps
During the next week as you have time to talk with your teenager, consider asking the following questions:
– You talked a lot about spiritual gifts and God wanting all Christ-followers to use their gifts. How have you seen people around you use their spiritual gifts? (Share your thoughts here too.)

– Ok, so, if you’re a believer, you have spiritual gifts. What are some things that you think God has gifted you with? (You have a powerful opportunity to point out your teenager’s strengths and gifts that he or she may not be able to see.)

GETTING TEENS IN THE WORD – At the beginning of this year I really want to focus on getting teens to spend a little time every day in God’s word. If they do that I know it can help transform their life!! I started a series this past Wednesday about Resolutions ande are encouraging teens to form healthy spiritual habits. There are 2 ways we are promoting this and we hope that you help us and encourage your teen to participate!

We are doing this by trying to reach teens where they are. 1) I have bought a book called “One Minute Bible for Starters.” The book is broken up into 90 days. Each day has a short Bible reading and devotional. Each reading is short so it is manageable and if teens can do it for 3 months, then they have started an amazing habit! 2) I have also started putting passages of Scripture with very short devotional thoughts on Instagram. I post these several times a week when teens are getting ready for school. The youth instagram name is “cabotcocyg”. Encourage your teens to participate in one or both of these great opportunities!

Upcoming Events
1/13-15 – TLC Branson – Back on Monday – 1:00pm
1/19-20 – Men’s Retreat
2/4 – Super Bowl Party – 5:00pm
2/11 – Teen Devotional – 6-8pm – need host
2/23-25 – CHRISTeens – DUE: 1/7
3/30 – Spring Sing – $ DUE 2/7

Wednesday Night – T. J. Davidson
Forward Motion 1/3
Session 1: To The Moon (Jan. 3)
So many times we look at our lives with great expectations, thinking we should be leaps from where we are. We expect perfection. We expect to arrive at some level. The reality is that following Christ isn’t about leaping to instant perfection. We’re walking with Him daily—a walk that involves steps, not leaps. Following Jesus Christ is about the small steps we make every day, steps of obedience, steps in relationship with Him. Sometimes those steps are small, sometimes they are big—but they are all still steps, moving us forward.

Sunday Morning
Spiritual Gifts 1/3
This week we began our series on Spiritual Gifts. This week’s lesson was entitled “The Gift Giver,” and it focused on helping students understand that God’s plan to serve and grow His church is for the Holy Spirit to work in and through individual believers, and to begin to consider their attitudes toward the gifts they’ve been given.

Next Steps…
During the next week as you have time to talk with your teenager, consider asking the following questions:

– You talked a lot about spiritual gifts and God wanting all Christ-followers to use their gifts. How have you seen people around you use their spiritual gifts? (Share your thoughts here too.)

– Ok, so, if you’re a believer, you have spiritual gifts. What are some things that you think God has gifted you with? (You have a powerful opportunity to point out your teenager’s strengths and gifts that he or she may not be able to see.)

Roots of Compassion (1/2)
In recent years it's become very cool to "care" about social issues. But here's the problem… if compassion is something we do and not something we are, are interest in caring for the forgotten, neglected, abused and lost will be short lived. We have to figure out how to ROOT ourselves in compassion.

Sunday Morning – T. J. Davidson
Anchored (1/3)
We are going to spend the next 3 weeks looking at some Biblical Issues that we may get asked about.  I want us to feel anchored in what we believe and why we believe it.  This week we will look at the role women play in church.

Relationships (2/3)
This week we are talking about what we want out of our relationships, and what God wants out of relationship. Looking to answer 2 questions: is it okay to simply want companionship without commitment, and how to handle a relationship when the other person has different wants.
