News and Notes
T.L.C. – Sign ups and information sheets for T.L.C. are now available.  T.L.C. stands for Teen Leaders Conference.  It is an event where we take the leaders from our youth group (around 10-12) to Branson with the leaders from Searcy Youth Groups (College, Downtown, Cloverdale, Westside, Highway, and Beebe) and worship and learn about God on a little deeper level than other trips.

Mexico Mission Trip – We are doing a Mission trip to Mexico for the Senior High (10-12th grade and families) this year.  Info sheets are at the Welcome Center and up in the Teen Center.  This is going to be an incredible life changing trip.  I hope you can make plans to come.  We are also looking for a nurse to come on the trip as a precaution to look after our teens so if you are a nurse and want to come please come talk to me!

Bob Arnold Devo – The Bob Arnold Devotional will be Nov. 12.  We plan on having a ton of fun games at the devotional and prizes.  Bob really wants this to be a Family Devotional, so families are encouraged to come!  It will be a little earlier since it gets darker sooner, so it will be from 3-6pm.  We will have the Lord’s Supper for those who could not take it this morning.  I hope everyone will try to come out.  Bob wanted to know which parents are coming out so let me know so I can tell him, Thanks.

Upcoming Events
10/28 – Trunk or Treat
10/29 – Senior High Devo – Pfalser Devo – 6-8pm
11/12 – Devo Bob Arnold’s House – 3-6pm – Parents Invited
1/13-15 – TLC Branson – sign ups begin now!

Planning Ahead
June 22-30 – Mexico Mission Trip

Wednesday Night – T. J. Davidson (Grayson lead singing)
Scope (4/4)
This week we are talking about how we compare ourselves to others which is such a big problem, especially with our teens.  I think this lesson could really make a difference.  The main idea is Christ hasn't called us to want others people's lives or to compare our lives to their; he has called us to follow Him.

Sunday Morning – split
Senior High – Gary Bulice
Romans (3/5)
Romans 4-9 – Gary will continue his series on the book of Romans.  He will be covering Rom 4-9 this week.  Encourage your teens to read those chapters before class on Sunday.

Junior High – T. J. Davidson
The Story (3/5)
Jesus Ministry:
This week we are looking at Jesus’ ministry.  We are taking a few “snapshots” of the type of ministry he did and who he ministered to.  Some questions we are going to talk about in class that would be great to follow up with at home will be:

– Why do you think it was significant that Jesus fasted and was tempted by the devil?

– What kinds of people did Jesus usually minister to and spend time with?

– Who are the “tax collectors” and “sinners” of our society today?

News and Notes
HALLOWEEN PARTY
– This year for the Halloween Party we are going to do something like we did last year.  We are going to take the teens and do a Haunted House or Haunted Hayride.  I am going to try to find a Haunted House that is scary but at the same time is safe and Family Friendly.  More details to come.  If you have a suggestion let me know.

TRUNK OR TREAK – The teens will again help out with Trunk or Treat this year.  Trunk or Treat will be Sat. Oct 28 from 6-8pm.  We need as many teens to come as possible.  We also need them to get there at 5:40 to help set up and get in the right places.  We encourage people to also bring candy and drop it off in the family center so we will have candy to give away.  We encourage the entire congregation to come and be a part.  This is a great opportunity to serve the little kids in the congregation.

Upcoming Events
10/21 – Halloween Party
10/28 – Trunk or Treat
10/29 – Senior High Devo – Pfalser Devo – 6-8pm
1/13-15 – TLC Branson – sign ups begin!

Wednesday Night – T. J. Davidson (Cade H lead singing)

Scope (2/4)

This week in our Scope series, where we are looking at the life of Peter, we are talking about the idea of circumstances.  The main idea is that:  When all you can see are your circumstances around you, you miss out on what Jesus is doings all around you.

Sunday Morning

Junior High – Dylan Ball (I will be teaching but I’m on vacation this week)

The Story (1/5)

This week we are looking at the story of Nehimiah.

Quick overview of this entire series:

1) Know God’s Story

The idea is that through the 3 years the teens are in 7-9th grade, they will go through the entire Bible.  It’s important the teens has a grasp and understanding of the basic story of Scripture and these lessons are the main way we help them to see the BIG PICTURE and MAIN STORIES of Scripture.

When they were younger they probably learned some of the main stories but now they are older we want them to learn more specifics.  Not just their was a guy who built a boat, but we hope they can nail down more of the specific details of Scripture.

2) God’s Story Impacts Their Life

We also just don’t want to stop at them knowing the main stories of Scripture but we want them to understand how these stories relate to them and how we can be TRANSFORMED by reading and applying the Bible to our lives.  These stories did not just happen a long time ago but they inform us how to live today.

Senior High – Gary Bulice

Romans (1/5)

Gary will be working with the Senior High for the next 5 weeks looking at the book of Romans.

Scope (Where’s Your Focus) (1/4)

We are super duper excited to announce we are starting small groups this Wednesday Night!  The big take away for tonight is:  Jesus doesn’t want a relationship with you because of anything that you can offer him.  Sometime this next week reinforce this idea that your teens don’t have to perform or achieve to receive your love or God’s love.

Sunday Morning – Aud. for Seminar

Parenting PHASE – Once or Twice a year I try to bring in speakers and have a special one time class about important and practical parenting tips.  Last spring, we had Rob Gerst speak to us about the dangers of the internet.  Tomorrow night we will have Sam Jeffrey speak to us about some things we need to know as parents about cell phones.  Almost all of our teens have them but many of us aren’t being as proactive as we need to to make sure our teens stay safe and pure.  As a 10 year veteran of the CIA he will have some valuable insights to share with us.

Unsubscribe – Just a reminder, you can unsubscribe from this list if you no longer want to receive emails.  Click the “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of the page.  Hopefully this only pertains to those no longer involved in the youth ministry.

AGAPE GROUPS – I want to encourage all parents and their teens to get involved in a Agape group.  I want to stress that teens need to get involved in a lifeline group and that the teens should not be used as just babysitters, but this is a great chance for the teens to get involved in the congregation as a whole.  Teens, if for some reason you can’t be in an Agape group with your parents, get involved in another Agape group, I can help you find one if you need

TEEN EVENTS
I want to watch your teens in action, whether watching them in the band, debate, chorus, football, baseball, tennis, volleyball, or underwater basket weaving.  If your teen plays a sport or is in a club or some type of school activity I want to watch.  Get me a schedule of when they play or perform, or even tell me the day of event, so I can come and cheer them on.

Whose Graduating??
It is crazy to think about but we are already starting to make plans for our Graduation Service in May!  I need to know if your teen is graduating because I will need to send you some information in the upcoming weeks.

Upcoming Events

9/16 – Escape Room – 4:00 – 8:30 – $20 + food
$ DUE: 8/30 for Escape Room

          – Teens and Adults meet in Auditorium

Wednesday Night – singing and devo by T. J.
We are going to talk about forgiveness and why it is so important.  When we realize just how much God has forgiven us, it becomes natural for us to understand we have no place to not forgive others.

Sunday Morning – John Max
John Max will be speaking to us this morning.  He always does a great job and I look forward to what he has to say.

Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Try This:  This week try to tell your teen how much you love them or how proud you are of them no matter how good their grades are or how well they perform on the team they are on.

Sunday Morning – Roger Tonnessen

Roger Tonnessen will be speaking to us on Sunday Morning.

Back to School mini-retreat
In the past we have done back to school lock-ins and back to school day trips. This year we wanted to try something different.  We thought a mini-retreat would be a great way to start off the school year. We will use the time to hang out, play some games, and have a couple of lessons.

BIBLE STUDY WITH YOUR TEEN
If your teen is thinking about getting baptized or has already been baptized, I have a set of 3 Bible studies that I would love to do with your teen. It gives us a chance to study God’s word together and look at some important biblical subjects. It also gives me a chance to spend some one on one time with them and get to know your teen better. Let me know if you are interested, I am very flexible on when we can do the Bible studies.

Upcoming Events
8/20 – Back to School – Area Wide Devotional –
       5pm – 8:30pm – Highway Church of Christ – Dinner Provided
8/25-26 – Back to School Mini Retreat – info sheets at Welcome Center
9/10 – Teen Devotional – 6:00-8:00 – dinner provided
9/16 – Escape Room – 4:00 – 8:30 – $20 + food
$ DUE: 8/30 for Escape Room
9/20 – Sam Jeffrey – Special Wed night Speaker

Wednesday Night – T. J. Davidson (song leading – Tyler Jones/ Luke Isom)
Identity (2/3)
Many times teens are labeled because of past mistakes they have made. Jesus tells us that when we are in Christ we are a new creation, the old is gone, the new is here (2 Cor. 5:17). We don’t have to let the guilt of our past mistakes define our future. God wants us to forget what is behind and press on toward what is ahead (Phil. 3).

Sunday Morning – T. J. Davidson
Saving the Lost (3/3)
We are on our last week of talking about Saving the Lost. We have talked about what should motivate us to share our faith. Then last week we talked about what it means to be Salt and Light to our friends. This week we want to get very practical and discuss situations that teens are put in when they could share their faith. Sharing our faith should be easy and natural like talking to a friend. And this week we are looking at some “real life” scenarios where teens will have a chance to put into practice what they know.

Identity – (1 of 3)
We are starting a 3 week back to school series about our identity.  Identity is such a big issue for teenagers and it becomes especially hard when school starts back up.  This first week we will be looking at our identity in Christ and what that means for how we interact in the world.

Sunday Morning – T. J. Davidson

Love Your Neighbor (2 of 3)
2 – Salt and Light

Evangelism in our culture happens primarily through being salt and light to those around us.  For the most part, gone are the days of knocking on doors and setting up Bible studies.  The best way to Evangelize is through talking to your friends about Jesus or as I like to call it Frangelism (Friendship + Evangelism).  Talking about God does not have to be this awkward, unnatural event but it is like talking about a best friend that you have.

We are going to spend the next 3 weeks talking about the importance of Evangelism and some practical ways we can tell others about God’s love for us.  This week we are going to look at what hinders us and what should motivate us to talk to others.
