BIBLE STUDY WITH YOUR TEEN   –   If your teen is thinking about getting baptized or has already been baptized, I have a set of 2 Bible studies that I would love to do with your teen.  It gives us a chance to study God’s word together and look at some important biblical subjects.  It also gives me a chance to spend some one on one time with them and get to know your teen better.  Let me know if you are interested, I am very flexible on when we can do the Bible studies.  You can also find these Bible studies at the Phase Station by the Welcome Center.

Jesus' Incarnation means "God is with Us"  no matter what.  Such an important message in a teen culture where teens feel more and more isolated.

Bible 101 (2/3)

We are starting a new series called “Bible 101” and it is about some of the Great Themes of Scripture.  Although I call it Bible 101 it is anything but basic.  Every year we are going to look at a few different themes that are prevalent throughout Scripture.  I believe this will help us to see how the Bible is a unified whole and when we understand some of the Big Themes of Scriptures it helps make the whole thing make sense.

This week we are looking at Holiness.  One of God’s central qualities is his holiness.  And we see this theme interwoven throughout all of Scripture.  God’s holiness is what makes sin so serious and gives the impetus for the necessity the need for sacrifice and atonement.

Questions you can ask:
– What is God’s holiness?
(It is God’s total otherness.  It it his ethical and moral purity.  God is also totally other in that he is not created, eternal, all powerful, etc.)

 – What does it mean to be holy?

This week we are looking at Covenants.  The whole story of Scripture is carried along by covenants, this is the engine that drives the narrative of Scripture.  One of the major themes of Scripture is “God seeking a relationship with his people through covenant.”  Here is a great video we are using as our launching point < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ferLIsvlmI&t>

 Questions you can ask:
– Why is God having a covenant with us so important?
(Covenants are not arbitrary, and God will stick to his word)

– Why is it so important we keep our own promises we make?
(We have to be able to keep promises we make to people we can see, it helps us to get in the habit of keeping promises to God who we can not see.)

Attitude of Gratitude (1/1)

This week we are going to do a 1 week "series" on Gratitude.  I thought it would be very appropriate with Thanksgiving coming up and also our teens have to learn to be grateful and Thankful no matter what their circumstances.  I think this is one key is helping to fight depression/ sadness/ unhappiness.  We have to have an Attitude of Gratitude.  If you want to watch ahead, here is a clip I will be showing.  It is 4 minutes long and very powerful.   –   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk5EAxFCczM

Sunday Morning
Junior and Senior High – Dylan Ball

The Story (6/6)

1) Know God’s Story
The idea is that through the 3 years the teens are in 7-9th grade, they will go through the entire Bible.  It’s important the teens has a grasp and understanding of the basic story of Scripture and these lessons are the main way we help them to see the BIG PICTURE and MAIN STORIES of Scripture.

When they were younger they probably learned some of the main stories but now they are older we want them to learn more specifics.  Not just their was a guy who built a boat, but we hope they can nail down more of the specific details of Scripture.

2) God’s Story Impacts Their Life
We also just don’t want to stop at them knowing the main stories of Scripture but we want them to understand how these stories relate to them and how we can be TRANSFORMED by reading and applying the Bible to our lives.  These stories did not just happen a long time ago but they inform us how to live today.

Fishers of Men (3/3)
This week we are on our last week of our series on being "Fishers of Men."  This week we are looking at the Cost of Discipleship.  Jesus called his first disciples and he calls us to drop everything to follow Him.  This week I want to really hammer it home and talk about things in our life we need to let go of so we can grab onto Jesus.

Parents Try This:
Talk to your teen about how you first became a Christian and what the journey has been like for you.  Talk specifically about what it has looked like to "drop the nets" in your own life to follow Jesus.

This week we’re starting a new series called BUILD.  We’ll be talking about Nehemiah and how God used him to accomplish a great work. There are some great takeaways from Nehemiah’s story…check out what’s in store this week!

Parents Try This:  Try sharing a story of what it was like growing up where you lived as a student. Was it a big city or a small town? Was there a lot to do or were you often bored? Most importantly, in what ways does your hometown shape who you are today? As you share, you may just find your student starting to value his or her own experience more exactly where they are.

Build (2/3)

This week we’re starting a new series called BUILD.  We’ll be talking about Nehemiah and how God used him to accomplish a great work. There are some great takeaways from Nehemiah’s story…check out what’s in store this week!

Parents Try This:  Try sharing a story of what it was like growing up where you lived as a student. Was it a big city or a small town? Was there a lot to do or were you often bored? Most importantly, in what ways does your hometown shape who you are today? As you share, you may just find your student starting to value his or her own experience more exactly where they are.

Back to School (3/3)

The carefree days of summer are over, and now it’s time to get back to school.  You know you’ll have to focus on many things this school year, but are you focusing on the right things?

Senior High – T. J. Davidson

Denominations (3/3)
We are starting a series looking at different Denominations like Mormonism and Jehovah’s Witness. By studying what others believe it can help us to understand what we believe and why we believe it. This week we are looking at Catholicism.
