Fishers of Men (2/3)
We are spending the next 3 weeks talking about the story of Jesus calling his first disciples and what it looks like when Jesus calls us to follow him.  This week we are looking at what it means to be "Fishers of Men."

Parents Try This:
Talk to your teen about how you first became a Christian and what the journey has been like for you.  Talk specifically about what it has looked like to "drop the nets" in your own life to follow Jesus.

Sunday Morning
Junior High – Scott Patterson

The Story (3/6)

1) Know God’s Story
The idea is that through the 3 years the teens are in 7-9th grade, they will go through the entire Bible.  It’s important the teens has a grasp and understanding of the basic story of Scripture and these lessons are the main way we help them to see the BIG PICTURE and MAIN STORIES of Scripture.

When they were younger they probably learned some of the main stories but now they are older we want them to learn more specifics.  Not just their was a guy who built a boat, but we hope they can nail down more of the specific details of Scripture.

2) God’s Story Impacts Their Life
We also just don’t want to stop at them knowing the main stories of Scripture but we want them to understand how these stories relate to them and how we can be TRANSFORMED by reading and applying the Bible to our lives.  These stories did not just happen a long time ago but they inform us how to live today.

Senior High – T. J. Davidson

Acts – Empowered (3/5)

This past year the church has been studying the books of Acts in Small Groups, for Summer Series, and Chuck preached a series on the Conversion in Acts.  Going along with this congregational theme we have had, the teens are studying the book of Acts and looking at how the church was Empowered to be movers and shakers in the first century church and what we can learn from them.

Build (3/3)

This week we’re starting a new series called BUILD.  We’ll be talking about Nehemiah and how God used him to accomplish a great work. There are some great takeaways from Nehemiah’s story…check out what’s in store this week!

Parents Try This:  Try sharing a story of what it was like growing up where you lived as a student. Was it a big city or a small town? Was there a lot to do or were you often bored? Most importantly, in what ways does your hometown shape who you are today? As you share, you may just find your student starting to value his or her own experience more exactly where they are.

Peer pressure is inevitable in school.  No matter how strong you are, there are always going to be times where it is tempting to give in.  If you don’t decide now how you’re going to react to peer pressure, it’s going to be a lot harder to do the right thing when you’re trying to make that decision in the heat of the moment.

We live in a generation that demands instant gratification, yet spend hours and hours on things that don’t truly matter. This can leave us with little to no time to focus on what’s import and responsibilities that actually need to get done. Learning time management isn’t only helpful with this, it’s Biblical!

TEEN EVENTS   –   I want to watch your teens in action, whether watching them in the band, debate, chorus, football, baseball, tennis, volleyball, or underwater basket weaving.  If your teen plays a sport or is in a club or some type of school activity I want to watch.  Get me a schedule of when they play or perform, or even tell me the day of event, so I can come and cheer them on.

Whose Graduating??   –   It is crazy to think about but we are already starting to make plans for our Graduation Service in May!  I need to know if your teen is graduating because I will need to send you some information in the upcoming weeks.

AGAPE GROUPS   –   I want to encourage all parents and their teens to get involved in an Agape group.  I want to stress that teens need to get involved in an Agape group and that the teens should not be used as just babysitters, but this is a great chance for the teens to get involved in the congregation as a whole.  Teens, if for some reason you can’t be in an Agape group with your parents, get involved in another Agape group, I can help you find one if you need my help.

Important Dates

Reach (6/6) – A Study on Psalms and Prayer

The point of the lesson was to teach your child that they are missing an awesome level of communication with God when they don’t make time to stop and thank Him for all He’s done in and through their lives.
Next Steps . . . (Parents this part is NEW)
This week your child learned how a deepening relationship with God, through a vibrant prayer life, can lead them to boldly express the joy of their relationship with God, confident and bold in their faith. Help challenge your child in this area with the following questions:

·       How does a richer communication with God lead you to more confidence in your relationship with Him?

·       Think about times when God has intervened in your life. How can we express our joy and happiness over these moments in a way that makes others want to experience them for themselves?

·       Since your study was about reaching out to God, what are some ways we can thank God for all He has done in our lives?

Reach (5/6) – A Study on Psalms and Prayer

The point of the lesson was to teach your child that they are missing an awesome level of communication with God when they don’t make time to stop and thank Him for all He’s done in and through their lives.

Next Steps . . .  (This part is new each week!!)
Next is learning to trust God in all situations of life. Here are some questions that might help you talk to your child about the word trust:

·       How has your understanding of trusting God grown since you first became a Christian?

·       Do you think God can be trusted to help you in day-to-day situations? How do your actions either back this belief up, or undermine it?

·       What stands in the way of being able to trust God to help you in all areas of your life?
