Cooperation creates Community

We live in a world that likes to draw circles and divisions between people.  We live in a world of cliques and lists of whose in and whose out.  Nehemiah created a since of community and belonging by including others.   In our schools where teen anxiety and depression is on the rise teens need to feel a since of community and belonging.

Wednesday Night

The Journey (3/3)

Finishing our series on The Journey and what it looks like to the road to discipleship.  This week we are looking at John the Apostle.  He was first known as a Son of Thunder who wanted to call down fire form heaven and kill those who did not accept Jesus.  Later in his life Jesus has softened his heart and was known as the Apostle of Love.  It is easy for us to get mad and frustrated.  We live in a society that is all about getting “triggered” for what is happening.  However the way of Jesus teachers us to let go of anger and embrace love and forgiveness.

Sunday Morning
Sermon on the Mount – T. J. Davidson (6/6)

We are finishing our series on the Sermon on the Mount and we are looking at what Jesus has to say about the narrow way in Matthew 7:13-29.  We live in a society that wants to accept everyone and everything and not judge anyone’s beliefs.  Our study should start a great conversation about these two opposing world views.

WEEKLY EMAIL NEWSLETTER   –   Every week I send out an email that has attachments for upcoming trips, dates and info about upcoming events.  I also include descriptions of what I am teaching on Sunday and Wednesday.  I hope you will take time to put events in your calendar.  I also hope that you will follow up with your teen about what we are teaching in class.  When you ask questions it can start great conversations and it reinforces the message.  Also, research shows that just asking tons of questions is not the most effective, but have a conversation and tell them what you have been learning also!  If you are not on my email list or have not been reading them, I encourage you to do so.

This week we are looking at Matthew 5:17-48.  Mostly the "You have heard it said, sections."  Jesus reinterprets the OT to focus more on the heart and intention of the person.  We are so outward focused and results driven, it is so important that we check our hearts.  We are not called just to jump through hoops but to turn our heart toward God.

"Be Near" is a two week series on the games we play to feel close to God.  During this series we will say, "Getting close doesn't magically happen by itself.  It takes time and effort.  If you want to stay close to God, what is important to Him must be important to you."

Parent Follow Up:
– Talk to your teen about what you do to draw close to God.  it could be Bible reading, Praying, Serving Others, Worship, Being in Nature, or a host of other things.  Ask your teen they best way they draw close to God.
